Texas is suing a New York-based doctor for allegedly prescribing abortion pills through telemedicine to a patient from the Lone Star state.
The lawsuit is believed to be the first challenge to laws designed to shield doctors in states with abortion protections from legal challenges elsewhere.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is accusing Dr. Margaret Daley Carpenter of violating Texas law by prescribing abortion pills to a 20-year-old pregnant patient in Collin County, Texas. The lawsuit, filed in Collin County Thursday, is seeking up to $250,000.
