Posted on November 25, 2025 by Dissent

The Bangkok Post reports:

The Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) has ordered TIDC Worldverse to suspend its iris scan verification services in Thailand after it was found to be offering cryptocurrency in exchange for personal data.

It also directed the service to delete data collected from 1.2 million people to prevent possible illegal transfers overseas.

Pol Col Suraphong Plengkham, secretary-general of the PDPC, said the two orders issued by the committee’s expert panel were made under the Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) to safeguard against data leakage and illegal use.

The panel ruled that collecting sensitive biometric data in exchange for cryptocurrency was not compliant with the law.
