The Associated Press reports that H.R. 1258, the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2010, passed the House today. The proposed law would make it:
unlawful for any person within the United States, in connection with any real time voice communications service, regardless of the technology or network utilized, to cause any caller ID service to transmit misleading or inaccurate caller ID information, with the intent to defraud or deceive.
Correction: In a previous version of this post, I indicated that the bill now goes to the Senate. That was an error, as the Senate had already passed S.30 and sent it to the House. The bill should become law soon.
