Privacy laws are being introduced by the back door due to a lack of Parliamentary guidance on the issue, legal experts warned yesterday after Colin Montgomerie became the latest celebrity to obtain an injunction over allegations about his private life.
The warnings came as it emerged that the 47-year-old Scottish golfer had applied for the order following claims allegedly involving his former girlfriend Paula Tagg.
The injunction, which was granted by Mr Justice Eady last month, prevented a tabloid newspaper printing a story about the golfer.
But news of the injunction has reignited the fierce debate surrounding privacy laws in Britain and has led to fresh calls for the Government to provide clarification on what matters should be considered to be in the public interest.
