Vermont lawmakers to take up privacy issues

The Times Argus reports that the Vermont Senate Judiciary Committee will be holding a number of hearings on privacy issues this week and next. They will be taking up bills proposed by Senators Tim Ashe and Joe Benning.

Bill S.18 looks to regulate the use of drones and license plate readers by law enforcement, and require police to obtain warrants before a company can release electronic data. It also looks to establish “a private right of action” for people whose health care records are improperly released.
