The Public Service Commission has blocked an attempt by the World Bank to access the personal data of State employees, which it claims it needs for an audit of the civil service.
Senior Government officials on Monday said the World Bank’s request was in contravention of certain laws and they suspected the institution wanted to use the information for purposes that have nothing to do with the audit.
Government hired the World Bank as a private consultant to give technical and financial support and not to do the actual audit of the civil service.
According to documents at hand, the World Bank — through the Public Service Ministry — on October 21 wrote to the Salary Service Bureau asking for personal details of all civil servants.
