AU: Saints furious over nude pics

Posted on December 20, 2010 by pogowasright.org

Rodney Mouawad reports:

The St Kilda Football Club is furious with a teenage girl over publishing two lewd pictures, including a nude picture of one of their stars on the social-networking site Facebook.

St Kilda were so infuriated that they went to the Federal Court of Melbourne late on Monday afternoon seeking an order against the 17-year-old girl and the Federal Court ordered the girl to immediately take down the images and stop publishing them.

Justice Marshall ordered the 17-year-old girl and Facebook to be ‘restrained from publishing or continuing to publish the photographs’ under further order.

There may be more to this story, though, as the teenager may be a girl who had filed complaints against two players earlier in the year that involved allegations of sex. Her charges were investigated and dismissed. If it is the same young woman, is this her way of getting some measure of justice? And even if it is, don’t the players have a right not to have photos of them uploaded to her Facebook page?

What do you think of the court granting the injunction?  Since there’s no way to stop dissemination of photos once they are up on the Internet, I think the injunction was warranted pending further inquiry.
