OH: Legal opinion says Lorain school administrator may have violated privacy laws

A Lorain Schools administrator could have violated student privacy laws, according to a legal opinion presented at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.

While testifying to the Ohio Senate Education Committee last month, Rae Bastock submitted absentee data for students at Longfellow Middle School. Bastock originally was the building principal, but was recently named high school executive director for next school year. Bastock’s submission, which was pulled from the website later that day, included the names and personal telephone numbers for students who weren’t at school May 15 — more than 80 students’ information, along with their reasons for absence were listed.
