Ca: Contentious union finance disclosure bill violates privacy laws, critics say

Do you belong to a union? Ever wonder where all your union dues go?

Soon, you’ll be able to look it up online.

The bill, first introduced by White Rock Conservative backbencher Russ Hiebert four years ago, passed in the Senate Tuesday.

The bill requires unions to publicly disclose all transactions over $5000 and any salary over $100, 000, and give that information to Canada Revenue Agency, which will post it online.

President of the BC Federation of Labour, Irene Lanzinger, says it violates privacy laws.
