Fired for Refusing To Let Bosses Use Son’s Social Security Number, Waitress Says

Posted on December 9, 2009July 3, 2025 by Dissent

Barbara Leonard reports:

A waitress says her managers fired her because she refused to take a bribe to let an undocumented kitchen worker use her son’s Social Security number. Sheila Everly sued Legal Sea Foods in Westchester County Court.

Everly says that after she rejected bribes and threats from the Boston-based chain’s managers, she complained to corporate headquarters and was fired.

She says the restaurant’s outlet in White Plains wanted to use her son’s Social Security to pay wages to an undocumented alien working in the kitchen.
