But did you know that while everyone was focused on that, the GOP was quietly pushing a bill that would let employers force their employees to undergo genetic testing, then turn over the results? The fun never stops.
Drafted by House Republicans, the Orwellian-ly named Preserving Employee Wellness Programs Act would help employers get around pesky medical privacy laws like the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) of 2008 and the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990, which bar employers from even asking employees to take genetic tests. It would do this by allowing them to make this demand so long as it was part of an “employee wellness program,” or as I prefer to call them, “employer greediness program.”
