AP reports:
Missouri students’ Social Security numbers will be removed from a statewide database, the state Department of Elementary and Secondary Education said in response to an audit released Wednesday that was aimed at increasing data security.
The report by Auditor Nicole Galloway said compiling Social Security numbers put students’ personal information at risk in the event of a data breach and recommended several steps for the department to take to further protect children in the Missouri Student Information System.
