<em>Since I’ve got your husband, can I also have your dental insurance?</em>
<blockquote>Marie Swidra really must have wanted her teeth fixed, police say.
So badly, in fact, she allegedly used the identity of the estranged wife of the man she’s living with, police said.
Swidra, 45, of the 300 block of Doone Road, Fairless Hills, was charged Thursday with forgery, insurance fraud, possession of a controlled substance, identity theft and theft by deception, according to court documents filed with District Judge Leonard Brown.</blockquote>
The story goes on to report that when Swidra sought dental work:

Toohey told Clark the woman he thought was Strawmyre filled out a questionnaire and insurance forms using Rhonda Strawmyre’s name, address, Social Security number, date of birth, employer information and insurance. He also said the suspect signed Strawmyre’s name while his employees were present, records show.
Toohey told police he wrote four prescriptions for the patient for Percocet, Vicodin and other antibiotics.
After being made aware of the alleged identity theft, the dentist withdrew his insurance claim. </blockquote>
It’s hard to fault the dentist. How many of us really require identity verification such as a driver’s license or other photo ID like a passport? Is this a case where the Red Flags rule would have been helpful? It seems so.
