NYC officer arrested in ghoulish kidnap plot

Associated Press reports:

A city police officer was charged Thursday with leading a ghoulish double life by using a law enforcement database and fetish chat rooms to dream up a plot to torture women and then cook and eat their body parts.

Not surprisingly, there’s a lot of media coverage of this case, but it’s not clear to what extent the officer misused a crime database (another news source reports there is only one charge of accessing the database). We’ll have to wait and see as details unfold. Then, too, this case may boil down to a free speech case – was the officer arrested for his thoughts and speech, or is there really sufficient evidence to show he crossed the line into illegal conduct?
