RadioShack Buyer Claims Customer Data Was Included in Purchase; Tries to Block Its Auction

Posted on May 7, 2015June 26, 2025 by Dissent

Boy, talk about feeling chattel. Law360 reports:

The RadioShack creditor affiliate that bought 1,700 of its stores as a going concern at a bankruptcy auction in March said Wednesday that customer data collected during the transition belongs to it and shouldn’t be sold at an intellectual property auction set for next week.

Law360 has more on this latest development (subscription required). Doesn’t this make you wonder about how many times our information may be sold or transferred and we have no idea it’s happening. The RadioShack case is a time for those with the power to do so to ensure that consumer rights are protected, but our rights seem to be much more limited than the rights of big firms and their creditors.
